— Overview —

Six nights in a Swahili stone-house residency — slow mornings, dhow at dusk, spice as language.

A UNESCO World Heritage town of carved doors and donkey lanes, set in an archipelago of empty white-sand islands. No cars. No crowds. A private Swahili stone house, resident chef, butler and dhow captain — entirely yours for six nights. Lamu does not move at the pace of the rest of the world, and that is the entire point.

— Note —

Best visited December–March (dry, warm, low humidity) and July–September. April–June brings the long rains — quieter, greener and significantly less expensive; the house is still beautiful, the water still warm. Avoid mid-October to mid-November (short rains, rough channel crossings). Lamu Old Town has no motorised vehicles — all movement is on foot or by donkey. Dress modestly in town; Lamu is a predominantly Muslim community and a cultural briefing is included in your pre-departure pack. The stone house has air conditioning, reliable WiFi and modern bathrooms. It is not a camp — it is a home. Maximum party size for the standard residency is 6 guests; for larger groups or full-island buyouts, enquire under Private Kenya.
