Solana was founded in Nairobi by people who grew up watching the world discover Kenya — and who believed it deserved to be shown better. Not louder. Better.

We have walked the Gorges Valley before dawn. We have sat with Maasai elders long after the safari vehicles left. We have watched the Indian Ocean turn gold from a rooftop in Shela. We know what makes a moment hold — and we build your journey around those moments.

There is a particular hour in the Mara — not quite dawn, not quite day — when the grassland holds its breath. The air smells of red oat and cold dew. A thousand wildebeest move like a slow river across a copper horizon. Most people only ever see this in a photograph. Swanyah grew up knowing it by heart.

Born and raised in Kenya, he did not discover Africa the way visitors do — through the window of a Land Cruiser, behind a camera, with a cold drink in hand. He discovered it the way a child does: barefoot, unhurried, unfiltered. The Mara was not a destination. It was the landscape of his becoming.

He watched Kenya's travel industry with the quiet frustration of someone who knew the original and kept being shown a copy — extraordinary landscapes packaged into ordinary itineraries, guests leaving having been processed rather than moved. So he began to build what he could not find: a house of bespoke travel, where every itinerary is composed rather than assembled, and where the detail that makes a guest feel genuinely seen is never an afterthought.

Swanyah leads Solana from its atelier in Westlands, Nairobi. He still walks the Gorges Valley before dawn when he can. He still sits long after the safari vehicles leave. He knows what makes a moment hold — and he builds every journey around that.

In high-stakes technology there is a particular kind of operator who never seeks the headline. They work at the intersection of systems and silence. In those circles, they call him Ghost — not because he disappears, but because by the time you realise what he has built, he has already moved on to the next problem.

Steve came to safari from an unlikely direction: years building digital infrastructure for organisations that could not afford failure. When he encountered luxury travel, he found it, for all its grandeur, running on the digital equivalent of paper and string. He saw not a broken industry, but an unrealised one.

When he and Swanyah began to sketch out what Solana could be, the conversation moved fast — their instincts were complementary in exactly the right way. Swanyah could tell him what a perfect journey felt like. Steve could build the system that would deliver it, at scale, without ever letting it feel like a system.

Behind every journey Solana composes — every perfectly timed transfer, every camp that was already expecting you, every moment of orchestration that felt effortless because someone worked hard to make it so — there is Steve's architecture, running without a single missed note.
